Description
PROJECT INTENT
Notable for its inherent adaptability and resilience, the 100-year-old Hunt Armory has provided storage for military vehicles and weaponry, served as a staging area for military drills and athletic competitions, and provided a venue for major political speeches and popular performances.
The proposed adaptive reuse of this historically-designated building reinvents the landmark as a valuable community asset —the Hunt Armory Ice Complex—which would be the only publicly-available, competition-sized ice rink within Pittsburgh city limits.
The concept keeps the entire structure intact, providing necessary preservation work while inserting a second story “super floor” to support an NHL-regulation sized ice rink, seating for 500 spectators, studio ice rink, locker rooms, community classrooms, gallery hall, 25,000 square feet of leasable office space, and ground level parking for up to 110 vehicles.
