Description
PROJECT INTENT
The project intended to transform a library into a learning commons & technology hub. The design of the space creates a variety of collaborative environments incorporating new ways to interact with information through technology & shared user experience. The project program includes group study rooms, classrooms, computer labs, video studio, maker space, gallery & art storage, rare books archive, alongside book storage. To accommodate the amenities needed for a 21st-century learning facility an addition was required. In growing the library there was an opportunity to utilize sustainable building approaches established at the college's Sis & Herman Dupré Science Pavilion. The sustainable approaches included a high-performance building envelope, large, insulated glazed openings which allow natural light deep into the building, improved stormwater management, energy, & water efficiency, & a single slope roof oriented to take advantage of solar collection. The project succeeds in providing the additional varied spaces, as well as an efficient, sustainable enclosure for these new activities to take place. A library redefined.
