Description
PROJECT INTENT
The brick bearing wall dormitory building is a ubiquitous and banal form of construction, built en masse and seemingly located on every college campus across the country. This building form, made with cheap and common materials with standard and simple details, is constructed virtually the same in every climate/space, whether urban or rural, coastal or arid, temperate or frigid.
The embodied energy of this building type is massive, and in the interest of preventing a Warming Climate, why not take a deeper look at this common, but unnoticed building type and find ways to improve its performance? This scheme proposes a set of solutions which can be implemented in piecemeal or holistic fashion. Solutions are interchangeable and can be applied for local climate needs.
Furthermore, it aims to not only provide a new climate resiliency, but also foster social resiliency and deepen connections between the campus and the community.
